Aquanita Foods began its journey in Iceland, where our commitment to quality and sustainability was first established. In 2004, we launched our flagship product, Aquanita Lake Victoria Nile Perch, marking our entry into the U.S. market. From these humble beginnings, we expanded our offerings to include a wide range of seafood products, sourced globally from trusted partners. Today, as a Hispanic, family-owned business, we have grown into a global leader in the seafood industry, providing top-quality products to markets across the USA, Latin America, and beyond, while maintaining the values that have guided us from the start.

Farmed Seafood

Aquanita Foods partners with vendors who are active members of the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA). The GAA promotes environmental and social responsibility throughout the entire process of raising, processing, and distributing aquaculture products. Through our commitment to these standards, we support Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP), ensuring the safe and sustainable processing of farmed seafood.

Why Frozen?

Let’s be honest. Unless you caught it yourself, it’s hard to know when non-frozen seafood was harvested, and often, it’s not as ‘fresh’ as you think. At Aquanita Foods, we use advanced techniques to freeze seafood at its peak freshness, locking in moisture and preserving that just-caught flavor. We employ a method called blast freezing, which rapidly lowers the temperature of seafood to -40 degrees Fahrenheit or lower in a matter of minutes. This process creates smaller ice crystals compared to traditional freezing methods, which prevents cell damage and maintains the texture, taste, and nutritional value of the seafood. Scientifically, blast freezing ensures that the seafood’s quality is protected from the moment it is caught until it reaches your plate, providing you with a product that is as close to fresh as possible. Frozen seafood is also more sustainable. By freezing seafood at its peak freshness, we significantly reduce food waste, as the shelf life is extended, and less product is discarded due to spoilage. This practice supports sustainable fishing practices by allowing for better inventory management and reducing the need for overfishing. Additionally, frozen seafood can be transported more efficiently, often resulting in a smaller carbon footprint compared to fresh seafood that requires faster, more energy-intensive transportation methods.

Aquanita Foods, originally known as Atlantis Miami, was co-founded in 2004 by Atlantis Iceland and President/CEO Yvonne Mesegue. From its inception, the company focused on providing customers with a steady supply of high-quality products, emphasizing rigorous Quality Control Procedures. Yvonne Mesegue’s leadership and vision have been instrumental in shaping our company’s commitment to excellence. Our journey began with sourcing Lake Victoria Nile Perch and Atlantic Salmon, establishing a reputation for exceptional quality at affordable prices. As we grew, we expanded our sourcing to the Asian markets, broadening our product range and further enhancing our ability to meet diverse customer needs. As a Hispanic, family-owned international trading business, we take pride in our certified processing plants that meet global standards.
